Editorial: XIX Alasbimn Congress, Cancun Mexico
At the end of the 5th year of the publication of Alasbimn Journal we have the pleasure to report the inclusion in the Alasbimn Journal cover page of the Website of Alasbimn. This is in fulfillment of instructions received during the Alasbimn Assembly in Santiago, Chile during October 2002. Recently in May 2003 the XIX Congress of Alasbimn took place in Cancun, Mexico. The scientific program of which we published the abstracts of papers presented during the oral and posters sections was of the highest level.
The continuing education program (PE) had the participation of a large number of Mexican and foreign scientist that updated relevant subjects in Nuclear Medicine, particularly in the area of Oncology, PET, cardiology, neuropsychiatry and radio- pharmacy. In this last area there was a large number of papers concerning radio- synthesis of new molecules of interest in Oncology and other medical sub specialties. The important participation by the audience in the area of continuing education has motivated the organization in Alasbimn Journal of an independent section of Continuing Education, directed by Professor Patricio González and Dr. Teresa Massardo who were the organizers of this activity in Cancun. This group is interested eventually in defining an autoassessment system that may lead to certification of participation in this CE activity by Alasbimn.
During the Alasbimn Congress a General Assembly of Alasbimn took place and new authorities were elected. These authorities will be active through December 2005, the date of the next Alasbimn Congress that will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Another important event that occurred last month was a Meeting on SPECT in Psychiatry in Newport, California, USA., that lead to the decision of organizing the Nuclear Psychiatry Society. We wish this important endeavor a maximal success.
This has been a wish long cherished by this editor and also a reason to organize a Section on Nuclear Psychiatry in Alasbimn Journal since the beginning of 2003. This section has in this issue an excellent Review paper on A review of SPECT in neuropsychiatric disorders: neurobiological background, methodology, findings and future perspectives by Ann Gardner1, Marco Pagani from Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
In this number we published also a promising paper with reference to the development of a new radiopharmaceutical, Mazindol Tc99m for evaluation of functional changes in Basal Ganglia in Parkinson's Disease. An interesting paper also defines criteria of Diagnosis and Prognosis of Migraine. and another one on Brachitherapy of the CNS with Chromic Phosphate (32P) and finally a research paper on purification benzoyl-mercaptoacetylglycylglycylglycine (Bz-MAG3) that is complemented by biological evaluation.
We publish also the abstracts of papers presented at the XIX Congress of Alasbimn, many of them in English version.

Al completarse el 5º año de publicación de Alasbimn Journal tenemos el agrado de comunicar la incorporación de la página WEB de Alasbimn al formato de la revista, se cumple así con instrucciones recibida durante la Asamblea de Alasbimn de Santiago de Chile en Octubre del 2002. Recientemente en Mayo del 2003 se efectuó en Cancún México el XIX Congreso de Alasbimn. El programa científico del cual publicamos los Abstracts presentados durante las sesiones orales y posters fue de altísima calidad. El programa de Educación Continuada (E.C.) contó con la participación de un alto número de profesores mexicanos y extranjeros que pusieron al día temas relevantes de la Medicina Nuclear, especialmente en el área de Oncología, Pet, Cardiología, Neuropsiquiatría, Radiofarmacia. En esta última área se destacaron un alto número de trabajos sobre radio-síntesis de nuevas moléculas de interés en oncología y otras subespecialidades médicas. La importancia e interés manifestado por la audiencia en el área de educación continuada ha llevado a organizar en Alasbimn Journal una sección independiente sobre E.C. Dirigida por el Profesor Dr. Patricio González y la Dra. Teresa Massardo quienes organizaron la actividad en Cancún. Este grupo tiene el interés de formular autoevaluaciones que más adelante lleven a un reconocimiento de participación en esta actividad por parte de Alasbimn.
Durante el Congreso de Cancún se realizó la Asamblea General de Alasbimn donde se eligieron nuevas autoridades que estarán en ejercicio hasta Diciembre de 2005, fecha en que se realizará el pxo. Congreso de Alasbimn en la ciudad de Montevideo, Uruguay. La directiva quedo constituida por:

Otro hecho importante sucedido en los últimos meses fue el Congreso sobre Imagenología en Psiquiatría en Newport, California que llevó a la decisión de organizar la Sociedad de Psiquiatría Nuclear. Deseamos a esta iniciativa el mayor éxito. Este es un anhelo muy esperado desde hace tiempo por este editor y es la razón de la creación de la sección de Psiquiatría Nuclear en Alasbimn Journal desde principio del año 2003, en este número la sección cuenta con un espléndido artículo de revisión sobre HMPAO en Neurospect A review of SPECT in neuropsychiatric disorders:neurobiological background, methodology, findings and future perspectives by Ann Gardner1, Marco Pagani de Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
En este número publicamos además un interesante artículo sobre el promisorio desarrollo de Mazindol Tc-99m para evaluar el estado funcional de los ganglios de la base en la Enfermedad de Parkinson. Publicamos además un interesante trabajo sobre PRONÓSTICO de MIGRAÑAS, otro sobre BRAQUITERAPIA DEL ESPACIO SUBARACNOIDEO y por último PURIFICACIÓN DEL BENZOIL- MERCAPTOACETILTRIGLICINA, COMPLEMENTADO CON EVALUACIONES BIOLÓGICAS.
Además publicamos en este número de Alasbimn Journal los Abstracts del XIX Congreso de Alasbimn.
